TOWNSEND - Robert C. Hutchison, 87, of Townsend passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Hutchison was a licensed Funeral Director for over 65 years. He had owned and operated the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home in Townsend and Middletown. He served two terms as the Coroner for New Castle County during the 1960's. Born on June 26, 1927, he was raised by Mr. & Mrs. G. Lester Daniels and was a lifetime resident of Townsend and Middletown. At seventeen, he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during WWII. He graduated from Eckels Mortuary College in Philadelphia in 1947. As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball for the Townsend team and was involved in many civic organizations in the MOT area. He drove the ambulance for the Middletown Volunteer Hose Company, was a lifetime member of the Townsend Fire Co., a member of Union Lodge No. 5 AF & AM of Middletown, served on Townsend Town Council, and was past President of the State Board of Funeral Service. In the last few years, "Hutch" enjoyed holding court with his buddies at the Middletown Diner and visiting all the construction sites in the MOT area. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He now joins his wife, Betty, who passed away in December, 2013. He is survived by his son and his wife, Robby and Mary Hutchison of Middletown; his daughter and her husband, Tracey and Dave Evans of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Carey, Ben, Owen and Cole; and three brothers, Paul, Jimmy and Jack Hutchison. The Hutchison family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of Seasons Hospice, Shorecare of Delaware, and especially to Carlena Arroyo, who provided loving care to him in his home for the past six months. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 North Broad Street, Middletown, Del.
