Birmingham, 84 GREENWOOD - Raymond R. Birmingham passed away, Sunday, March 17, 2013. He was born in Upper Darby, Pa. on Nov. 13, 1928, the son of Joseph Birmingham and Evelyn Birmingham (nee Faust). Graduate of Upper Darby High School, Ray served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954, honorably discharged as a Third Class Petty Officer. He retired from the Philadelphia Electric Company Maintenance Division after 41 years. Ray was a former Truck Captain at Upper Darby Fire Company, No. 3, former Assistant Chief, Lenni Heights Fire Company and former Ambulance Captain for Lima Fire Company. He was active in the Parks and Recreation Committee for Middletown Township in the 1970's. Ray was an avid wood worker and enjoyed spending time in his workshop building furniture for his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and boating. He was married to the late Joan Birmingham (nee Steele) for 48 years. He is survived by three sons, Raymond S. of Glen Mills, Pa., Robert S. (Dawn) of Airville, Pa., and Glenn S. of Greenwood, Del.; and two granddaughters, Ensign Rachael B. Birmingham, USN of Bethesda, Md. and Natalie M. Birmingham of Garnet Valley, Pa.; and two brothers, Jack Birmingham and Fred Harris, both of Whiting, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at the Fleishauer Funeral Home, 16 W. Market St, Greenwood, DE. 19950, visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service. Internment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the Holisticare Hospice, 230 Sugartown Road Suite 30, Wayne, PA 19087.
