CANNON - Kenneth E. Roberts passed away April 2, 2013. Kenneth was born August 31, 1934 in Cannon Del. He was preceded in death by parents, Ellsworth Roberts Jr. and Meta (James) Roberts, and younger sister, Lynn, who passed away at the age of three. He is survived by wife of 55 years Frederica "Freddie" (Miner) Roberts; daughter Susan Roberts-Banken; son-in-law Joseph; and two grandchildren, Maggie and Katie Banken. Kenneth graduated from Seaford High School, class of 1952. He served in the Army Military Police, stationed in Japan. Upon his return from service he earned a Bachelors degree in Education from Salisbury State Teachers College and a Masters of Education from the University of Delaware. He was hired by the Caesar Rodney school district in 1962 where he taught English. He later served as Principal of Caesar Rodney Junior High and as the District's Director of Special Education for the last 19 years until his retirement in 1998. Kenneth was an accomplished musician. As a young man he played the organ for the Cannon Methodist church. A brilliant pianist, he composed his own original music. He loved opera and regularly attended performances for nearly 60 years. He enjoyed all things musical, except rap! He and Freddie attended opera on six continents and held season tickets to seven different companies. Kenneth and Freddie traveled the world, visiting 48 U.S. states and 112 countries, and walked on all seven continents. They were planning a nine day tour of Israel. His last trip was just last fall. He and Freddie departed on a cruise to Bermuda, only to be diverted to Boston due to Hurricane Sandy. Kenneth was challenged with health issues in recent years, surviving both a heart attack and two bouts of cancer. He fought a good fight and will be missed by all who knew him. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, Delaware.
