VICTORIA, Texas - Clarence W. (C.W.) Austin was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. He was born in Booths Corner, Pa. on June 22, 1933 to the late Henry and Delema Morris Austin. He joined the Air Force at 18 years, and on Sept. 1, 1954 while serving at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas, he met his future wife, college student Helen Carol Wise. They were married on April 9, 1955. On discharge, he returned to Dover to re-enlist for what was to become a career in the Air Force. He was almost immediately frozen to the base for assignment to the 89th MAW Special Air Missions, Air Force One, in Washington, D.C., where he served for 17 years, with a year of service in Viet Nam in between. He began his stent in D.C. as Vice President Johnson's Crew Chief, moving up to the presidents Crew Chief after the Kennedy Assassination, retaining that Position through The Johnson, Nixon, and part of the Ford administrations. C.W. was active in coaching his boy's baseball teams each year, including All Stars, and supported their football, basketball and bowling teams. After retirement from the Air Force as a Master Sgt., C.W. joined Jetco Chemicals, later to become part of Proctor and Gamble, where he retired in 1987 due to health reasons. He loved his garden and enjoyed golf and fishing when he was able to go. C. W. and Carol also loved camping and traveling to visit old friends and family. He was a member of Victoria Masonic Lodge #40, AF & AM, and Victoria Chapter No. 158, Order of the Eastern Star. Clarence is survived by his wife, Helen Austin of Victoria; sons, Robert W. Austin of Victoria, Richard L. Austin of Cuero, Ronnie S. Austin of Victoria; sisters, Pearl Johnston of Felton and Ruth Clarke of Magnolia; grandsons, Michael R. and Ryan S. Austin both of Victoria; granddaughters, Kimberly A. Austin of Corpus Christi and Brandi Austin of San Antonio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilson and Walter "Bud" Austin. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Grace Funeral Home with Les Cole presiding. Burial with full military honors led by the United States Air Force Honor Guard will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Austin, Ryan Austin, Bubba Stasny, Jeff Stasny, Rusty Knezek and Mike Monse. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Bruce Bauknight, Dr. Kurtis Krueger, Dr. Rakish Kathpalia and all the Nurses and Staff of Citizens 2 South. After the graveside services, a reception will be held at the Masonic Hall, 3502 N. Navarro. Memorials may be made to Life Point Fellowship. Arrangements under the care of Grace Funeral Home.
