Alvinza M. "Abe" Pickens

CAMDEN - Alvinza "Abe" M. Pickens, Jr. passed away on Jan. 2, 2015 in his home. Mr. Pickens was born Oct. 9, 1938 in New Ashford, Mass. to the late Agnis Dube Pickens and Alvinza M. Pickens, Sr. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years. He worked for I.G. Burton, George & Lynch, Allen Cox Camper Sales, Brass Sales, and then his own business, RV Repair, which was his favorite job. He loved antique cars and belonged to the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware, National Plymouth Club, and Delaware Valley Region Plymouth Club. He also belonged to the Delaware Farm Bureau, Camden Wyoming Moose Lodge and the Walter L. Fox American Legion Post #2. Abe enjoyed camping, surf fishing, travelling, going to antique car shows, and the antique flea market in Carlisle, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela J. Sarlogia; sisters, Rita Wadsworth and Joan Pickens; and brothers, Roger and Ronald Pickens. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Madeline Maynard Pickens; sons, Richard, Alvinza III, and Wayne Pickens; daughters in law, Connie and Melissa Pickens; sister, Sandy Dwyer and her husband, Gary; six grandchildren, Lorraine Clark, Richard Pickens, Jr., Jonathan Pickens, Christina Pickens, Buster Roberts, and Brie-Anna Pickens; five great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild, and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Rd., Dover, Del 19901. Friends may call 6-8 Tuesday evening. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, near Sandtown. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
