Della M. Hacker

DOVER - Della M. Hacker of Dover passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 86. Mrs. Hacker was a genuinely grand lady. Such a fine example of quiet goodness and caring. She was a class act and touched many lives. Having run the race of our human existence so well, may she now be granted the rest eternal so justly deserved. May Our Lady of the Miraculous medal, she faithfully wore, gently carry her to the arms of Her Son. Well done Mrs. Hacker for your abiding concern for others, please remember us as you see God. Mrs. Hacker was born October 28, 1928 in Blacksnake, Ky. to the late Daniel Johnson and Mary Slusher Johnson. Della was an Air Force wife, and had several moves before coming to Delaware in 1968. She was a devoted mother and taught her children to be strong and independent. She also worked as a sales clerk at Nichols Discount City, and as a hostess at Plaza Nine Restaurant and Cool Springs Restaurant. In addition to her parents she was she was preceded in death by her husband, Flem D. Hacker, in 1989. She is survived by one son, Richard Hacker and wife Lori of Daytona, Fla.; three daughters, Carolyn Forbes and husband Dennis of Magnolia, Vicky Bricker and husband Jeff of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Lisa Carey and husband Scott of Dover; brother, Lee Finley Johnson of Loyall, Ky.; two sisters, Jean Head of Loyall, Ky., and Verda Clem of Loyall, Ky.; four grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family in Kentucky. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org, and/or purchase a children's book and donate it to your favorite library.
