Okeechobee - Ann Marie Hughes Thornton died peaceably at home on May 22, 2018. She was born July 16, 1932, in Detroit, Mich. to John and Violet (May) Hughes. She was a resident of Okeechobee for the last 38 years.
Ann was a former member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile Mariah Ladies and the Shrine Temple Ladybugs. She was a member of the Okeechobee Garden Club and she enjoyed painting as a hobby.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, John William Thornton, Sr.; son, John William Thornton, Jr. of Greenville, Miss.; daughters, Susan Carol of Okeechobee, Judith Ann of Deland, Shirley Marie of Winter Springs, Nancy Lynn of Titusville; and a sister, Shirley Mae Zent of Orange City.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973.
