LABELLE - Carl Wayne Baker, of LaBelle, died Nov. 13, 2013, after a very short battle with cancer that he swore wasn't from the cigarettes. He came to LaBelle at a young age and fell in love with his new home. He felt blessed being part of such a great community. Carl loved a good hotdog, peanuts with a bottle of coke, a good fried spam sandwich with Hellman's mayo, going camping anywhere, anytime, The Miami Hurricanes, Ducky Dynasty, cookies, ice cream and Jamison Irish Whisky. Not necessarily in that order. He "hated oatmeal and bad politicians." He was a great builder of golf clubs, grilling chicken and made a "mean" spaghetti sauce. He was a MacGyver of making things work; making everyone feel appreciated; and always liked being the first to welcome someone new to one of our clubs. He never met a stranger, only a new friend. Carl was a portrait of a man who loved every minute of his 74 years. His laughter was infectious and witty remarks were never in short supply, even at the end he was still making us laugh and looking for a "cheap feel". He traveled the world during his life, always looking for a new adventure. Carl was a Vietnam Veteran. He served in the U.S. Army and belonged to the 82nd Airborne and Signal Corps. His status as a Hero by his family was something he was never quite comfortable with holding. He was a former Hendry County Deputy and teacher. He was a Master Printer and repaired presses throughout the world. He was proud volunteer of the Legion Boy's State, Honor Guard and Hope Hospice Valor Program. Please join his family and friends for a celebration of life at the LaBelle VFW 10100 supported by the American Legion Post 130 and LaBelle Moose 2398, Saturday, Dec. 7th, 2013 at 3 p.m. He would love for everyone to share their funny stories, lift a beverage and laugh about the good times. Anyone wishing to cry or collect money please send condolences. Carl will be missed by his wife and friend of 30 years, Cindy Pearce-Baker; sons, David Baker (Gracie), Ocala, Sheldon Smith (Aom and Lily), Khor, Al Khawr, Qatar; and daughter, Carla White, Pervis Miss.; his Louisiana family, Mary Beth and Rob Pearce; kids and all of their extended family; sister-in-law, Patricia Thompson (Jim) Mallard, Iowa; brother-in-laws, Shawn Pearce, John LaBadie and their families, Mich.; sister, Denise Sampson (Ken), Kingman, Ariz.; cousin, Jewel Mazza, Orange, Texas; his LaBelle family, the O'Bannon's and the Middletons; along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
