Okeechobee - Carolyn Gertrude Hayes died Oct. 19, 2018. She was born Aug. 13, 1936 in Portland, Maine to the late Merrill Scott and Flora Arletta (Campbell) Day. A resident of Okeechobee since 1982, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee, American Legion, lifetime VFW Auxiliary, and Moose Lodge. She was well known as the Taco Lady at the American Legion Post 64, where all her customers were special to her. She had a passion for volunteering, was always happy, and met no strangers. She adored her cat, Bandit.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Okeechobee, including Margaret, for the level of care and attention they provided.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Christopher Hayes; sister, Marilyn "Lynn" Dufrense.
She is survived by her daughters, Flora-Ann "Buttons" Fox-Hayes, of Okeechobee, and Kimberly Jean Caron (Gary), of Maine; four grandchildren, Brandi-Lee, Nicole, Christine, and Phillip; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
