John Starnes Obituary

OKEECHOBEE - John Albert Starnes Sr., born on Sept. 2, 1930, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 16, 2012 at 6:02 p.m. with a favorite CNA who'd adopted his two dogs at his side. He is survived by his sons, John Jr. and Kevin Lee. He was a hardworking, honorable, decent, loyal man dedicated to being a good provider for his family with a 22 year career in the Air Force, followed by a second stellar career at Pratt and Whitney. He and his wife Sue, who passed away May 28, 2010, moved to Okeechobee in 1974 and transformed a few acres of low lying pasture into a tidy gated estate with trees and fishponds and gardens surrounding a lovely sturdy home. His last several months were partially spent at Okeechobee Health Care where he made many friends and enjoyed a lovely twilight romance with a delightful woman named Mary. He will be missed by many.

It was always a treat to share in your dad's new-found happiness through John Jr.'s emails. I will miss that, but he was truly blessed to have that rebirth.
