Okeechobee - John Roland Pennington died May 20, 2018. He was born Dec. 2, 1944 in Chattanooga, Tenn. to Clarence and Flossie (Jackson) Pennington. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy.
A resident of Okeechobee since 2013, he was a member of New Life Anglican Fellowship in Lake Placid, President of the Republican Club, and the Vietnam Veterans Association. He also worked many years with the Boy Scouts, attaining the position of Unit Commissioner. He began the Victory Baptist Church Bus Ministry and traveled for many years doing Missionary work with From the Heart Ministries.
Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by his siblings, David, Linda, and Norma.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gerri Pennington, of Okeechobee; six sons, Jason Pennington (Sandy), of Lake City, Matt Pennington, of San Francisco, Calif., Jeremy Pennington (Andrea), of Pennsylvania, John Tarrt (Karen), of Wilmington, N.C., Robert Tarrt (Cindy), of Laurel Hill, N.C., Mark Tarrt (Joan), of Springfield, Mass.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; brothers, Albert Pennington (Edna), of Forest Park, Ga., and Bill Pennington (Connie), of Okeechobee; and sister, Ginger Peterson (Carl), of Fayetteville, Ga.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home with Pastor John Glenn officiating.
