OKEECHOBEE - Larry Lee Sparks, "Sparky" age 79, formerly of Cedarville and currently of Okeechobee, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Okeechobee Health Center, where he had been a resident for the past several years. He was born Nov. 23, 1938 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer J. Sparks; his mother, Cloteen (McCarty) Sparks-Stephenson; brothers, Elmer "Bud" Sparks, Ronald Sparks and Tom Sparks.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry Dion Sparks "Little Larry" and April of Cedarville; his daughter and son-in-law, Mari "Joleen" Channels "Sis" and Eric of Xenia; sister, Elaine Youngs (Jack); special cousin, Vaughn Williams "Ducky" whom he raised; and special cousins, Craig Williams "Guy" and Gene McGlothin; former wife, Wanda Sparks Randall, the mother of his children; sisters-in-law, Vivian Sparks-Smith, Kay Sparks and Charlotte Sparks; grandchildren, Jessica Shields, Jarrett Sparks, Javier Jackson; step-granddaughter, Erica Channels; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Faul, Carson Faul and Layla Sparks; other family members, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends, especially those he made in Okeechobee Lake in Florida. Larry retired from General Motors and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed being outdoors and hunting, as well as traveling.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 at the McColaugh Funeral home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia, Ohio with Rev. Mark Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. Friends may call from 12 p.m., Friday until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the in his memory.
