OKEECHOBEE - Marcos Antonio Minondo, Jr. peacefully and quietly entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018. Marcos was born and raised in Guayama, Puerto Rico to the late Javier Antonio Minondo, Sr. and Eduvigis Barbosa.
In 1957 Marcos traveled to Okeechobee and became a seasonal worker for years, traveling from Florida to Pennsylvania to earn a living in packing houses, the canning industry and citrus industry. In 1970 he returned to Okeechobee to live permanently and retired as a crew leader with the River Gold Fruit Company in 1989. Marcos was well known in the community and from miles around as a passionate fisherman. He was a genuinely kind man who lived by the motto "Love Thy Neighbor". He also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting, entertaining with family and friends; and watching baseball.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine P. (Ervin) Minondo; and six siblings, Luis Minondo, Ana Minondo, Fannie Minondo, Idelsonso Anaya, Sylvia Anaya and Isabelino Anaya. He leaves to cherish his precious memories seven children, Jacqueline Coleman, Marian "Neicey" Robinson, Karen Ervin-Futch, Patricia A. Ervin-Kennedy, Michael A. Minondo, Adrian L. Minondo and Marcos A. Minondo, III; and three sisters, Ana Anaya, Gloria Anaya and Irma Anaya; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one special brother-in-law, Levern Ervin (Juanita); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and sorrowing friends.
Memorial Service will be held at the Buxton / Bass Funeral Home in Okeechobee, on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 3 p.m. with family receiving friends following for a repass in Deans Court on N.W. 10th Street.
We the family of Marcos Antonio Minondo, Jr. would like to express our deepest gratitude to our family and friends for the many acts of kindness shown during this time of bereavement. A special thank you to the staff at Glades Healthcare Center in Pahokee, as well as Trust Bridge Hospice of West Palm Beach.
