Okeechobee - William Eugene Gillette died May 2, 2018. He was born April 5, 1934 in Dansville, New York to William John Gillette I, and Dora May Kennedy. He was a renowned and respected world class Gunsmith, accomplishing feats that others in his class said couldn't be done. He dedicated his life to all shooting enthusiasts equally, from local sportsmen to world class skeet shooters, alike for over 65 years. He respected knowledge and the tenacity of others to overcome adversity.
He was a life member of NRA, and enjoyed airplanes and community interests. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee.
Mr. Gillette is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha D. Gillette, of Okeechobee; sons, William J. Gillette, II (Valerie), of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Steven R. Gillette, of Okeechobee; daughter, Elisabeth J. Weaver (Marty), of Ft. Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Parma Union Cemetery in Hilton, New York at a later date.
