OKEECHOBEE - Robert G. Fortier, Sr. died at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. Robert was born in Pawtucket, R.I. During the Viet Nam Conflict, Robert proudly served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps. In 1986 he moved to Okeechobee where he was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and the VFW. He enjoyed playing cards and in his earlier years hunting. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Fortier, Sr. and Edna Butler Fortier; and by his wife, Michel "Shelly" in April, 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole "Nikki" Fortier; and son, Robert G. Fortier, Jr., both of Okeechobee; granddaughter, Alana Powell of Miami; brothers, Norman (Pauline) Fortier, Jr. of Fort Pierce, Michael (Kim) Fortier of Texas; sisters, Elaine Murphy of Vero Beach, Susan (Pat) Kelly of Pawtucket, R.I.; and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 18387 US 441 North, Okeechobee, on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 1 pm.
