Grover C. Cooper
WOOLFORD - Grover C. Cooper, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was born in Nashville, N.C., on March 26, 1930, and was a son of the late Carl and Elizabeth Collins Cooper.
Mr. Cooper graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, Georgetown University and Ohio Wesleyan University and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. He served at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, FUSA in Japan, and Parks Air Force Base in California.
When he returned home he went back to college at George Washington University, where he received his law degree, or juris doctor. During law school he was a clerk to Judge Edward "Buddy" Beard with District Court of District of Columbia.
On June 23, 1956, he married Barbara Jean Simmons. He was a communications lawyer in Washington. He retired in 1995 as senior partner of Fisher Wayland Cooper Leader and Zaragoza, where his clients included the Rev. Pat Robertson, television producers Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin, and Univision. He was admitted to practice before The Supreme Court of the United States.
The Coopers made their residence in Dorchester in 2000. Mr. Cooper enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating; also during his retirement he wrote four novels" The Morning Calm"; "Island on the Bay";" A Pirate in Williamsburg?"; and "Geezer."
His memberships included the Talbot Country Club, various clubs in Washington, and was he former treasurer of the Federal Communication Bar Association, and The Barristers.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Cooper of Woolford; three children, Douglas Collins Cooper of Bethesda, a daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth McKenna and husband, Christopher of Urbana, Christopher Collins Cooper and wife, Stefanie Ann Cooper of Bethesda; three grandchildren, Christopher McKenna, Brendan McKenna and William McKenna, all of Urbana.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, at Milton United Methodist Church in Woolford with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley and the Rev. Dave Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard.
A visitation will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
