FLEMING, JOHN J., JR. John J. Fleming, Jr., 87, of North Branford, husband of the late Enid Wright Fleming, passed away February 20, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Meriden on June 5, 1925, son of the late John and Mary O'Donnell Fleming. He entered the United States Navy during World War II and served with the Third and Seventh Beach Battalion during the Omaha Beach Invasion and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He worked as a line foreman and tree expert with Northeast Utilities for many years until his retirement. He was a well known artist and sculptor and a published poet. He was an avid golfer and volunteered for many years at the Greater Hartford Open. He is survived by his sons, Jack Fleming (Kate) of Northford and Robert Fleming (Debbie) of Tunbridge, VT; his daughters, Patty Ann Lisi (Joe) of Coventry, RI and Gail Jones (Art) of Guilford; his brother, Thomas Fleming of Wethersfield; his grandchildren, Matt, Brent, Josh, Chelsey, Jay, Jerry, Shannon, Jen and Ryan; and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Cartier. His funeral will be from Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, (Rte. 22 So. at Rte 80.), North Branford on Monday at 9:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. I had the pleasure of painting with your Dad many years at the Guilford Art Center. He was an inspiration to all of us. I just heard from Joan Downey today that he had passed away.
Please accept my condolences. John was a fine man and will be missed by all of us who knew him.
