Charles Reiss

Reiss, Charles T., SR. Charles T. Reiss, Sr., age 85, husband of Elizabeth Keane Reiss, died peacefully in Milford on January 19, 2013, after a long illness. He was born in New Haven, CT, son of the late Charles and Johanna Murphy Reiss. He was predeceased by his sister Wilhelmina "Billie" Connellan and his son-in-law Davis Walsh. Charles attended St. John's University and received his graduate degree from Fairfield University. He retired from the New Haven Board of Education, having been an educator for 30 years. He faithfully served as a proud Marine of U.S.M.C. from 1945-1947, and received a purple heart for his service to his country. He was a gentle man of great warmth and humor, a role model of devotion, faith and integrity. He had many interests and a lifelong love of learning, but he always declared his greatest joy was the love and pride he had for his family. He is survived by his wife and their much loved children and grandchildren., Charles (Linda) Reiss of North Haven, Paul (Marianne) Reiss of Guilford, Carol Walsh, Robert (Kathleen) Reiss, and Kathleen (Stan) Domek all of West Haven, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a nephew Tom Noonan and a niece Joanne Leddy. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Golden Hill, Hospice Services, and the WHVA HBPC program for their care and devotion. The hours for visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 8:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Vianney Church at 9am.
