Donald Arthur Armistead

ARMISTEAD, DONALD ARTHUR Donald Arthur Armistead, 93, of Madison, husband of the late Dorothy Young Armistead, died April 23, 2012. He was born March 20, 1919 in Auburn, NY. where he lived his formative years. He attended Cornell University. Locally, he worked as a chemist at Olin Matheson, New Haven & more recently the CR Gibson Co. in Guilford, CT. He was a specialist in paints, wood finishes, and anti-freeze formulation. Avocations include geology, archeology, early American industrial technology, and creating models and dioramas around its history. He enjoyed nature and hiking. He was a past president of the New Haven Mineral Club and lifelong member of the Archeological Society of Conn., the E.A.I.A., Denison and Mayflower Societies, and was a Cub & Scout leader in NY & CT. He is survived by sons David (Shirley), Douglas (Anne), Dwight (Betsy), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his sister Constance Armistead of Deland, Florida.
