Edward R. Vaughn Jr.

VAUGHN, EDWARD R., JR. Edward R. Vaughn, Jr, 85, died in Baton Rouge, LA June 6, 2013. He was born May 12, 1928 in Manning, SC. to the late Edward Rufus Vaughn, Sr. and Mamie Elizabeth (Frierson) Vaughn. He attended Ansonia (CT) High School and then South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, SC where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in June 1951. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Colonel Vaughn began a career in the Army in his college's ROTC program and served for over 31 years with numerous decorations and service medals. His decorations and awards included: Legion of Merit (1st OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (JAP), National Defense Service Medal (1st OLC), Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bar (4), United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was predeceased by his wife Grace Victoria (Zanders) Vaughn; two sons, Edward Rufus Vaughn, II and Bruce Joseph Vaughn; one sister, Ella Ruth (Vaughn) Pickney; and one brother, William Henry Vaughn. He is survived by one son, Neal Anthony Vaughn of Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Juanita Vaughn Eaton of Bradenton, FL; two brothers, Earl Franklin Vaughn, Sr. (Ella) of Rustburg, VA and Abraham Monroe Vaughn (Jayne Derwin) of West Haven, CT; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
