Francis Byrne

Byrne, Francis J., Jr. December 25, 1920 - December 2, 2013. Frank (Fritz) Byrne, a 60 year resident of Hamden, CT and more recently of Peterborough, NH, passed away on December 2nd at Summerhill Assisted Living. He would have turned 93 on Christmas Day. Fritz retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years. He was a decorated WWII infantry veteran who saw action in North Africa and Italy. Fritz loved singing Barbershop and sang with the St. Rita Church Men’s Choir for many years and especially liked to sing with his children and grandchildren which he joyfully continued to do during his final days. He was a friend of Bill W’s for 35 years. Fritz will be remembered for his friendly smile and endless kindness to others. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor. He was the beloved father of Frank Byrne and his wife, Diana, of Clinton, CT, Kathy Byrne and her husband, Vic, of Francestown, NH, Kevin Byrne and his wife, Susan of Southport, NC and Robert Byrne and his wife, Peggy Sapia, of Middletown, CT. He was a wonderful and involved grandfather to Julia of Durango, CO, Carolyn of Greensboro, NC, Rachel of Seattle, WA and Patrick of Ft. Lewis, WA who will all miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his brother, John and his sisters Anne and Kaye Byrne. He is survived by the Bailey Family nieces and nephews Harry, Pat, Judy, Evelyn and Ernie and by the Byrne family niece and nephews Barbara, John and Paul and his sister-in-law, Anne. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Connecticut in the spring followed by burial with his wife, Eleanor, at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice at HCS, 45 Main St., Peterborough, NH 03458.
