GEORGE JAMES SCHMIDT

SCHMIDT, GEORGE JAMES George James Schmidt, 63, of Milford, beloved husband of Virginia Shanks Schmidt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014. He was born in Milford on October 21, 1950, a son of the late Cornelius and Marcella LaMarsh Schmidt. George was a graduate of Milford High School. He was a former co-owner of American Insulators and a retiree of DHL Airborne Express. George was an avid sports fan. He was involved in the sport of softball for over 40 years as a player, a coach and an umpire. He was a past president of the Milford ASA Umpires’ Association. He also umpired girls’ high school softball and volleyball games. George volunteered for many years at the Special Olympics and at the Beth El Center in Milford. George is survived by three brothers: Vincent (Barbara), Neal (Linda), and Paul (Barbara) Schmidt, and his life-long friends, Albert Secondi and James Rainey. He was predeceased by his brother Louis Schmidt. George was a man of peace, optimism and human kindness, and he will be well-missed by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Mary Church, Gulf Street, Milford, on FRIDAY morning at 10:30. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
