Herbert Johnson Sr.

JOHNSON, HERB ERT V. SR. Herbert V. Johnson Sr. 85, of Milford loving husband of 63 wonderful years to Cecelia Petrillo Johnson passed away on November 21, 2012 in the West Haven V.A. Medical Center. Beloved father of Herbert (Jean) Johnson Jr, Stephen (Gayle) Johnson, William Johnson, Elizabeth Bufalini and Bridget (Russell) Furlow. Grandfather of Toni (Alan) Ginsberg, Herbert (Julie) Johnson III, Kelly (Dave) DiNapoli, Jeanna (Adam) Doherty, Stephanie (Scott) Esposito, Matthew (Francesca) Johnson, Nicole (Richard) Massella, Stacy (Sean) Murphy, Michelle Johnson and Russell and Ryan Furlow. Also survived by 15 great grandchildren. Brother of William (Carol) Johnson, Valerie (Agnes) Johnson and the late Joseph Johnson. Herbert was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Korean War, he was also a butcher at Hummell Brothers in New Haven before serving the city of West Haven as a police officer from 1962 until 1986, where he retired as a Lieutenant. Herbie loved the NY Giants and UConn basketball and enjoyed bargain shopping at Shop Rite, going to flea markets to buy and sell, and sharing life stories. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially Sunday nite dinners at his house surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family of Herbert V. Johnson Sr. would like to thank the staff for the special care on the 4th floor west of the West Haven V.A. Medical Center. His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven WEDNESDAY morning at 10:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on TUESDAY from 5pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Dept. of Veteran Affairs, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
