KANEKO, HIDEO Hideo Kaneko, 78, of Cheshire, CT, passed away on February 4, 2013 at the Masonicare Health Center. He was born in Osaka, Japan on April 13, 1934 to the late Buntaro and Hisano Kaneko. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Eiko Suzuki Kaneko; a daughter, Miyuki Kaneko of Princeton, NJ; a son, Fumio Erik Kaneko and his wife, Grace Calamita of Simsbury, CT; and two sisters, Shizuko Kaneko and Mitsuko Sawai of Japan. He attended Yamamoto Senior High School and Barclay College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Fox College and a Master of Arts in Library Science degree from the University of Michigan
. He was Curator of the East Asia Collection and held other positions at the Yale University
Library for 34 years. Prior to his service at Yale University, he was the Head Librarian of the East Asian Collection at the University of Maryland. He was active in numerous academic and professional organizations and associations, including the Council on East Asian Libraries and the Japan-United States Conference on Library and Information Service in Higher Education. His contributions led to important developments in the management systems of East Asian Collections. He published numerous publications and appeared in documentaries in Japan. He also devoted great time to his research on Dr. Kan'ichi Asakawa and other areas of interest which he pursued in his retirement. Services will be private.
