Salvatore Gallicchio

Gallicchio, Salvatore " Sal" Salvatore "Sal" Gallicchio, 95, a lifelong resident of West Haven, beloved husband of 39 years to the late Maria Francesca Gagliardi, Gallicchio passed away on to eternal life on August 17, 2013 surrounded by friends and caregivers in the Orange Health Care Facility. Loving father of Vincent (Linda) Gallicchio Sr. of Belton, SC and Elizabeth Gallicchio of New Haven and the late John Gallicchio. Also survived by 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Brother of Mario Gallicchio of East Berlin, CT and the late Annette Gallicchio and Anthony Gallicchio. Sal was born in New Haven on November 10, 1917, son of the late Vincenzo and Maria DeLuca Gallicchio. He was a 1935 graduate of West Haven High School. He served with valor as a member of the U.S. Army participating in D-Day in WWII. He worked as a lithographer for many years first with Wilson H. Lee and then Yale University Press until his retirement in 1983. He was active in a number of local civic and religious organizations: West Haven Italian-American Club, the Columbian Society, St. Anthony's Church of New Haven, and St. Lawrence and Our Lady of Victory Churches of West Haven. His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven THURSDAY morning at 10:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call on THURSDAY morning from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Orange Health Care Facility, 225 Boston Post Rd., Orange, CT 06477.
