Basil R. Duncan

DUNCAN, BASIL R. Basil R. Duncan, 69, of Guilford, Connecticut, died on Tuesday, August 6, in Sarasota, Florida, after a long illness. Basil was born in Alexandra, New Zealand to Ernest and Lois Duncan on October 20, 1943. He moved with his family to the United States as a teenager. Basil graduated from Bucknell University in 1964 and received his law degree from Columbia University in 1967. After clerking for Judge Joseph Blumenfeld of the U.S. District Court in Hartford, he joined the law firm of Wiggin and Dana in New Haven. In 1972, he opened a law practice in partnership with William A. Childress. Subsequently, Barry H. Cox joined the firm. Basil finished his career as a solo practitioner, specializing in real estate transactions and trusts and estates and retired in 2011. Basil is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda H. Duncan of Guilford; his son, Paul R. Duncan and daughter-in-law Xiaoyan Zhang of Lexington, Massachusetts; his son, David L. Duncan of Brooklyn, New York; two grandsons, Aidan and Alexander Duncan of Lexington; his mother Lois Duncan of Little River, South Carolina; his sister, Lois Lyon and her husband Rexford Lyon of Bernardsville, New Jersey; and his sister, Erena Duncan of Little River, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 110 Broad Street, Guilford, CT.
