Bruno Massaro Obituary

Massaro, Bruno A. Bruno Adolfo Massaro, 69 of 1534 Dunbar Hill Road, Hamden died Friday July 29, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Josephine Russo Massaro. Bruno was born in Faicchio, province of Benevento, Italy on August 10, 1941, a son of the late Gaetano and Maria Lombardi Massaro, and moved to Hamden on June 13, 1958. He was a drywall contractor for the past fifty years and was the owner and president of Bruno Massaro & Sons, Inc. of Hamden. He was the inventor and patent holder of the Insta-Arch prefabricated archway. Bruno was an avid farmer and gardener who loved to make wine and cured sausages, and spending time with his grandchildren. He truly held his Italian traditions close to his heart. Bruno was a proud Vietnam War Army Veteran and served in Vietnam between 1967 and 1969. He was the founder and a member of the Hamden Bocci Association, and a member of the Sons of Italy. Bruno is survived by his daughter, Donna (Brian) Mauro of Hamden, three sons, Bruno (Antonetta) Massaro and Joseph (Marcela) Massaro of New Haven, and Guy Massaro of Hamden, three sisters, Silvia (Luigi) Mattei and Lena (Andrew) Viscuso of Hamden, and Lucy (Richard) Valentino of Wallingford, a brother, Vincent (Susan) Massaro of Hamden, three brothers in law, Frederick Russo of Branford, Robert Russo of Hamden, and James Russo of East Dennis, MA, and seven grandchildren, Nico, Skylar, Dario, Bruno, Rocco and Valentino Massaro, and Antonia Mauro. He was predeceased by two sisters, Carmela Mauro and Rita Massaro, and four brothers, Marcello, Angelo, Albert and Benito Massaro. Bruno's funeral procession will leave Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Torello-Iacobucci Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 in the Church of the Ascension, 1040 Dunbar Hill Rd., Hamden. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. The Massaro family will recieve relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Order Sons of Italy in America, 219 E St., NE, Washington, D.C. 20002 or to the United Service Organizations (U.S.O.)
