Mars was one of my all-time favorite people and best reporters/writers that I've ever known. He was as straightforward and no-nonsense as you can get, and I got to spend lots of time and tales with him because we both covered golf and the UConn women's basketball team for years. Italian food was our favorite, and we had a lot of friendly golf time together as he would set up games in the New Haven area as I did in the Hartford area. When I join that Great Golfer in the Sky, I'll be looking up Mars ASAP. Keep resting in peace, buddy!!!!!!!

I just heard of Paul's death today .
Paul was a great writer and an even better friend.

After Paul retired from the Register , we worked together at Healey Ford in Ansonia. Paul always had some funny sport stories to tell on everything sport from Naugatuck High School Basketball with Bill Rado to his days of covering the New Haven Nighthawks. Paul could talk forever about Sports. Both Paul and Dave Solomon from the New Haven Register were two of the finest sports writers at a time in history when the era of Newspaper Sports was a mandatory daily read.

My condolences to the Marslano family

To Barbara and family,
Paul always treated me like one of his kids, always a nice word.
One of fondest memories is finding Barbara's diamond ring at Holiday Hill, and both of your eyes lit up. RIP, Paul. Mark Jaffee

To the Marslano familY:

Paul was a colleague - and a friend. As I rose up the chain of command at the Register, eventually to editor, Paul was always one I turned to for advice. It (the advice) was always good.

He was a good man.

Paul and I spend a lot of free time together during our years together at the Waterbury Republican and the New Haven newspapers. We even played together on a slow-pitch softball team in Naugatuck. He was a good friend who helped me move into my new home in Nsugatuck many moons ago.

My condolences to the entire Marslano family on your loss.

My deepest sympathy to Barb and the rest of the Marslano clan. I was quite fortunate to spend a lot of time with Paul playing and covering golf, along with some fun times covering the UConn women's basketball team, especially when the Huskies won their first national title in 1995. Always loved his sense of humor and no-nonsense approach to his job and life. And he sure know a lot about a lot of things --- and wasn't afraid to tell you either. :):):):) I was really sad when I heard Paul had died, then I quickly realized what a full and wonderful life he had led doing it his way. And I'm sure he's having fun holding court with The Big Guy in the Sky. RIP, friend.

To the Marslano Family. I was an avid Blades and Nighthawks fan and would hang over every word Paul wrote about the New Haven hockey scene. It is with my sincere sorrow to read of the passing of Paul. Another icon of the world I knew is gone.May God Bless the Marslano Family
