Mark Rawling Obituary

RAWLING, MARK S. Mark S. Rawling, 64, of West Haven, beloved brother and uncle, died suddenly, January 12, 2011, having been stricken at his home. Born in New Haven, September 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Lorraine Simpson Rawling Sr. Mark was employed as a welder with Iron Workers Local #424 for 35 years and had been Union Treasurer for over 22 years. A member of the VFW, Mark was a proud veteran who served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam during his six year tour of duty and was honored with the Bronze Star. He was also a dedicated advocate of "Buy American." Mark is survived by two aunts, Harriet Murphy of New Haven, and Agnes Simpson of Branford; two brothers, Richard E. Rawling Jr. and his wife Dina of Wallingford and Naples, FL, and Paul T. Rawling of East Haven; and six nieces and nephews, Valerie Pierpont and Darlene Plummer, both of North Haven, Catlin Rawling, of California, David Charles Rawling of Madison, Justine Rawling of North Carolina, and Cuyler Rawling of Ft. Myers, FL. Mark was predeceased by a brother, David Rawling Friends are invited to call at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Sunday from 3 to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home, Monday morning at 10:00. Interment will be private and at the convenience of Mark's family. Donations in Mark's memory may be directed to the Hospital of St. Raphael Foundation, 1450 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511-9839. Online condolences can be made at www.keenanfuneralhome.com

Richie and Paulie, My sympathy of loosing your brother Mark. I have many fond memories of working with Mark over our careers together. Mark's commitment to the Ironworkers was evident holding various offices and being a member of our apprenticeship board for many years! Mark was a good Ironworkers and a great person. Dear Rich, Paul and Harriot, We are so terribly sorry to learn of the passing of our good friend, Mark, who we considered a member of our family.
