CAPLAN, ALAN COOPER Alan Cooper Caplan passed away peacefully on January 22, 2013 in Cardiff, California. Born to Helene and Ralph Caplan June 30, 1926 in Evanston, Illinois, he was the youngest of three children. He is survived by his adoring wife of 64 years, Else Caplan and their children, Dee Caplan and spouse Bill of Seatlle, Washington, Kathy Peck and spouse Fred of Black Hawk, Colorado and John Caplan and spouse Elisabeth of Northford, Ct. He has been a cherished brother of sister Shirley Nathan, brother of David Caplan, sister-in-law Barbara and brother-in-law Mike Israel. He is survived by six beloved grandchildren, Fred Peck and spouse Laura, Jesse Peck and spouse Peri, Erica and Jenny Tuke, Jake and Jordan Caplan. He was loved and admired by eleven nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school in Peoria, Ill., Alan served in the Naval Air Corps. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Business. He successfully pioneered the Midas Muffler franchise, opening shops in the greater New Haven, Ct. area. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. Alan discovered his passion for golf while still in high school and enjoyed playing well into his 80's. His greatest joy in life was his family to whom he was devoted. A gentle soul with a great sense of humor he was admired for his integrity and kindness by all who knew him. He was the most loving husband, best father and true friend. Our family thanks with deep gratitude the compassionate caregivers from La Jolla Nursing who provided daily loving care. We also think San Diego Hospice for their support and guidance. We thank and acknowledge the caring staff from Belmont who checked-in during the night. Our heartfelt thanks to the devoted friends who have shown their love and support in countless ways. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
