Barbara Macaboy Obituary

Macaboy, Barbara M. Amelia Barbara Amelia Macaboy (PIKL) passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013 , surrounded by her loving family after a short illness. Barbara was born April 18, 1928, in New London, the daughter of the late Robert and Frances (Farina) Maynard. She was a woman of great faith and love and lived her life in a way that touched many. Barbara raised six children. She was proud to say that she raised five strong, independent, free thinking women. Joan Savannah Woods, Hamden; Lynn (Kenneth Schmidt) a thanks to Kenny for all the good times he showed her, Hamden; Nancy (Jeffrey) Delgado, Clinton; Carol Riccio, North Haven; Patricia (Raymond) Blanks, Wallingford and the apple of her eye, her son Paul (Christina, whom she considered her sixth daugher) Macaboy, She also unconditionally loved her eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Once her son reached school age, Barbara began working for the Hamden Board of Education as a paraprofessional at Ridge Hill School from which she retired in 1993. Not a woman to remain idle, she started working at Beacon Pharmacy up until her recent illness. She was an avid card player, and would join a game of bridge at a moment's notice. She was an active member in the Hamden Democratic Party, a member of the Hamden Women's Club and many other civic organizations. More importantly, she loved her church. She was a founding member of the Ascension Church in Hamden and devoted many hours volunteering there during the past fifty years. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Richard P. Macaboy, her sister Catherine Maynard, and her brother Robert Maynard and her beloved granddaughter Shannon McNamara Piccirillo. Barbara touched many lives in many ways. She gave her family the gift of laughter, love, and remembrance in her final days, making her passing easier for them. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Elim Park Rehabilitation Center, Gaylord Rehabilitation, and Vitas Hospice Care for the compassion and love they showed her in her final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Church of the Ascension. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
