Barbara Rozett Obituary

rozett, barbara Barbara Rozett, age 82 passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 after a long struggle with dementia. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Barbara spent all of her life as a tap dancer. She taught, choreographed, performed and was passionate about sharing the art of dance. As a child, she tapped on radio (before television), and danced for the USO. She later went on to run a dance studio out of her home (In Levittown, PA) for many years. Following that, she founded The Elm City Cloggers, based in Madison, Connecticut, The Step Sisters, based in Midlothian, Virginia and choreographed many shows in Pennsylvania, Long Island and Connecticut over the years. Her love for dance ran a close second to her love for animals and Frank Sinatra. That love was only overshadowed by the love she had for her three daughters, Pamela Hettrich (Martin), Lisa Friedman (Jeremy), Shawn Senning (Michael), nine grandchildren (Dustin, Jordan, Kevin, Lindsay, Caroline, Colby, Griffin, Connor, Peyton) and one great-grandson (Oliver). Other survivors include a sister, Harriet Rathmill (Michael) and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Jack Rozett, a brother, Stephen Goldman and her parents Dorothy and Sidney Goldman. She has resided in Midlothian, Virginia for the past 12 years. A memorial service will be held at Goldstein's Funeral home in Southampton, PA on Monday, July 15 at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any of the following in Barbara's memory; Brian Sander's JUNK (dance) Send in memory of Barbara Rozett to 1938 S Iseminger St., Phila., PA 19148, North Shore Animal League www.animalleague.org, Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org. she and i were among the first to move into Krim Point which is still a wonderful friendly neighborhood. I knew her dog Polly and I now have my second rescue dog, Beauregard. We ladies often got together at her KITCHEN TABLE TO PLAY DOMINOES AND OTHER GAMES - PARTICULARLY ON NEW YEARS EVE NIGHTS. /My oldest son jeff died at age 64 last november - he had regressed to severe dementia during the last year he lived.

Barbara will be missed by so many of us dancers. Learning and dancing with Barbara for fifteen years was a high-light of my life at that time. It was a true sisterhood. My thoughts and love to the family, Nancy Rankin

Barbara took the Elm City Cloggers on a joyful 15 year journey of performances all over Connecticut. We looked forward to our classes sometimes twice a week because she was such a good teacher and so much fun to be with. We miss her still.

Barbara was a Krim Point neighbor and friend. She was light-hearted and had a good sense of humor. Since my name is also Barbara, I called her BR and she called me BC. I remember New Year's Eve suppers followed by games at her home. She loved her dogs with a passion. She will be missed by all of us.
