Caroline Eva Nealley Obituary
NEALLEY, CAROLINE EVA Caroline Nealley, of Derby since 1968, died November 18, 2013, at Birmingham Health Center after a long illness. She was 75. Born in Old Town, Maine, she was a manufacturing employee at B.F. Goodrich in Shelton, and later at Lord Kinematics in Shelton until her retirement. She was well-known in the Valley for her work across decades as a member and a sponsor in a multi-branch support group. Always ready with a hug, a shoulder, praise, and encouragement, family and friends knew her tough love, too, to keep them on the straight and narrow. Her hobbies included flower gardening, sewing, arts and crafts, baking gift cookie trays, and hunting down any friend trying to take or hide on a path that would hurt them. Friends and family were blessed with her great compassion, common sense, and kindness, as well as her practical jokes and ever-ready laughter. Over the years, she opened her home to several women who were escaping domestic abuse or situations involving addiction. Caroline was pre-deceased by her son, Roger Jr. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers in Maine, Nancy Free, Joan Chase, Wayne Getchell, and Clinton Getchell; three sisters and a brother in Florida, Diana Murphy, Betsina Parsons, Donna Getchell, and Richard Getchell; a son, Jonathan; a daughter, Debbie Carvalko, two granddaughters, Carlee and Kelsey, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Tuesday (TODAY) from 5-6 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. Her funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the parlor with the Rev. Iwy Patel-Yatri officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011 or , 74 Batterson Park Rd., Farmington, CT 06032. Friends may read her full obituary and leave condolences at www.adzimafh.com.
