JOHNSTON, CARROLL O. Mrs. Carroll O. Johnston (65) nee O’Neill, of Essex, CT and formerly of Montague, NJ died October 23, 2013. Born May 21, 1948 in Port Jervis, NY to John “Jack” and the late Irene Carroll O’Neill. Graduate of The Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT. She was an accomplished pianist & vocalist and throughout her life enjoyed both performing and teaching. Employed at Insurance Underwriter for Crum & Forster Insurance Company in Middletown, CT. Member of the Congregational Church of Lyme, Lyme, CT where she directed the Choir and played organ. A family statement read: Carroll was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and wife. She enjoyed family holidays and dinners where she often entertained her nieces and nephews with silly songs. Her wit, beauty, and joie de vivre will be deeply missed. Carroll is survived by her husband Frank M. Johnston of Middlebury, VT, her sister Lisa O’Neill of Montague, NJ, her brother James O’Neill of Winchester, CA, nieces Rebecca O’Neill, Carroll Flansburg and Bevan Flansburg, nephew Tristan O’Neill, and several cousins. She is predeceased by her uncles Walter & Joseph Carroll, aunts Claire Friend & Lillian Westbrook, and her beloved dog Lida Rose. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm from First Congregational Church of Lyme, 1 Sterling Road, Lyme, CT 06371.
