Charles Richard Catania Sr.

CATANIA, CHARLES RICHARD SR. Charles Richard Catania, Sr., 93, (a few weeks shy of his 94th Birthday) of East Haven; passed awaypeacefully at CT Hospice in Branford on April 12, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Victoria Jablonski Catania; born in New Haven May 5, 1920, youngest and last son of the first New Haven Italian bread bakers (“ Catania Bakery” of Fair Haven ) the late Michael & Marie Catania. He was a graduate of local Hamden & New Haven schools and was a WW II Veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Pratt & Whitney , division of United Technolgies Corp. focusing on fan blades and tool modeling design. Charles dedicated his life to his wife & sons and his Lord & Church. He is survived by his son & sole caregiver, “Chuck” Catania, Jr., his cat Fee, II and many nieces & nephews living around the world; predeceased by a son Barry P. Catania, 6 brothers Augustine, Louis,Tony, Nick, Mike & Stephen and 5 sisters Emily, Anna, Rose, Lillian & Frances. “Dad” was loved dearly by all who knew him and loved him in return. Special thanks to the Guilford VNA - Sue J. & Antoinette, Gina & Irma and Companions & Homemakers who made it possible for “Dad” to remain at home during his illness. Family & friends are requested to go directly to St. Vincent de Paul Church, East Haven to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 am.
