Christos Vastakis Obituary

VASTAKIS, CHRISTOS Christos Vastakis, 65, of New Haven passed away March 31, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Vasiliki Katsenis Vastakis. Mr. Vastakis was born in Doliana, Greece on Dec. 25, 1947, son of the late Konstantine and Panagiota Haskos Vastakis. He operated Country Food Market on State St. in Hamden for the past 36 years. Prior to that, he operated Sterling Restaurant on State St. in New Haven and Pizza Plus in Fair Haven. He was a member of St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, Chapter 98, Order of AHEPA and was an active member of the Velouchi Association. He enjoyed helping and caring for everyone who came his way. He loved to travel, especially to his village in Greece. He was instrumental in bringing the July 20th celebration of the church in his village back to life. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bobby Vastakis of Groton and his fiance, Candice Blair, and Konstantinos Vastakis of Meriden; two daughters, Penny (Mike) Riggione of Northford and Agatha Pestilli of Meriden; one brother, Sotirios (Maggie) Vastakis of Hamden; sister in law, JoAnn Vastakis of Branford; and three grandchildren, Alexa Pestilli, Christina & Michael Riggione, as well as nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kostas Vastakis and his brother, Spiro Vastakis. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm. and are invited to attend funeral services at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, Tower Lane, New Haven Thursday morning at 10:00 am. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
