Dorothy M. Graves

Graves, Dorothy M. Dorothy M. Graves, 80 a former longtime resident of Weston died Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013 at the Davis House in Windsor. She was born April 19th 1933 at her grandfather Benway's farm in Wallingford, VT. She was the daughter of Robert G. and Nathalena M. (Benway) Graves, the youngest of their three children. She grew up in several of the towns surrounding the Rutland area. Dorothy enjoyed the Church and had a very strong faith which was evident in her daily life. She attended Sunday School and when she was old enough she became a Sunday School teacher. Most recently she was a member of The Church of Christ in Springfield, VT. She read and studied the Bible faithfully. Her passion was helping others through difficult times. She wrote letters to many folks, some that she had never met, to help lighten their day and encourage them. Dorothy was also well known for being a home companion to folks that needed a hand in difficult times. Dorothy loved knitting, crocheting, sewing, and wild flowers. She would knit baby items for the local hospital and others. She would also knit or crochet lap blankets for organizations to give to folks in need. Often she would knit/crochet while sitting keeping company with folks that needed companionship. Her knowledge of plants was extensive. She was aware of the ones that would help an ailment and how to use it. Survivors include 4 daughters Dare Ann, Velcea, Kim and Aven, and a son Thais as well as a sister, Helen and brother, Philip by her Mother's second marriage. She also has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father in 1940, her mother in 1995 and brothers George L. Graves in 1973 and William F. Graves in 2001. Graveside services will be held 10AM Friday, August 2, 2013 in the East Clarendon Cemetery in East Clarendon, VT. Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.
