ANDERSEN, ERLING F. Erling F. Andersen, beloved husband of Patricia Frankenbach Andersen, of Madison, CT, passed away peacefully on March 14th at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Known to his friends as Andy, he was an avid golfer, bridge player, and talented woodworker who shared his work by gifting his art to friends and family. Born in Brooklyn, in 1928, the son of Erling H. and Regna Andersen, he attended Hastings High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, served in the Phillipines, and then graduated from Colgate University. An accomplished athlete, Andy was elected to the Hastings High School Hall of Fame, having achieved varsity letters in four sports during the same year. At Colgate, he played fullback on the varsity football team. Andy worked for IBM for eighteen years, while residing in Baltimore, MD, Bethlehem, PA, and Westport, CT, before retiring to Madison. The most important thing in Andy's life was his family. Besides being survived by his wife, Andy is survived by a sister, Joan Fladager and her husband, Erik; four children, Diane Andersen Armstrong and her husband, Deane, Dawn Andersen Boutilier and her husband, Mark, James Andersen, and Chris Andersen and his wife, Jill; six grandchildren, Jason Armstrong and wife, Kate, James Armstrong and wife, Allison, Catherine Andersen, Emica Boutilier, Gregory Andersen, Breanne Boutilier; and a great-granddaughter, Leah Armstrong. Services will be held on March 16, at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook, CT at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, Branford.
