WELCH, FRANK G., JR. After a brief illness, Frank Gorry "Buddy" Welch, Jr., of Unionville, CT, formerly of Branford, died December 16, 2012 at CT Hospice, Branford. Frank was born in New Haven September 11, 1934, son of the late Frank G. and Kathryn Meehan Welch. He attended Hopkins in New Haven, and graduated from Yale University in 1956. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Jane McCarthy in 1955. Frank worked as an engineer, first at Firestone Tire Co. and then for Armstrong Rubber Co., where he was head of engineering for the Special Performance and the Commercial Tire Division. In 1982 he purchased Gnomon Copy Shop in New Haven. Frank enjoyed the water, sailing, tennis, friends and NY Times crosswords, but his greatest love was time with his large family. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, and son, Christopher M. Welch. He is survived by his children, Frank Gorry Welch III, Laura A. Brinkerhoff, Elizabeth Aurelio, Patricia (Mark) Boudreau, Susan (Richard) Kennedy, and William J. (Sara) Welch; his sisters, Charlotte Quaintance of Highland Park, NJ, and Maryellyn (George) Page of Guilford; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Mack, Allyson, Madeline, Kate, James, Daniel, Lillian, Kyle, Jane, Christian, Isabelle, Annabelle, Jacqueline and his many nieces and nephews. Friends may call this Friday from 4 -7 pm at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, Saturday morning, 12/22 at 9:30. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com. A memorial service at St. Mary's, Unionville, CT is planned for early February.
