BOYD, GEORGE S. George S. Boyd, 89, of West Haven, departed this life March 30, 2014. He was the widower of Shirley Boyd. Born in New Haven, CT, January 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Percy Boyd and Carrie Caldwell, and stepson of the late William Caldwell Sr. Prior to retiring, Mr. Boyd was employed at the former Armstrong Rubber Company. He was a WWII Army veteran and a longtime member of the Oriental Lodge #6 and the East Rock Lodge #141, I.B.P.O.E. of W. He is survived by daughters, Maureen Poindexter of Los Angeles, CA and Linda Boyd-Bell of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Roland (Audrey) Caldwell of Fort Washington, MD and Earl Caldwell of Hamden; a beloved granddaughter, Marcie Diggs of West Haven; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tracey Boyd-Ellis; brothers, William Caldwell Jr. and Herbert Caldwell; a sister, Pastor Mary Wilhelmina Redmon; and his stepmother, Lula Boyd. A celebration of Mr. Boyd’s life and legacy will be held Monday, April 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Online guestbook available at www.curvinkcouncil.com
