Hilda Smith

SMITH, HILDA A. Hilda A. Smith, of Branford, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon H. Smith; parents, Karl and Martha Hoepfner Wuestefeld; sister, Elsie Mahoney and brother, Karl Wuestefeld. Hilda is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Mangiulli of Cheshire and Denise Watrous (Steve St. John) of Branford. She has three devoted grandchildren, Jim (Tina) Watrous, Greg (Angela) Watrous and Brendan Mangiulli; and four great-grandchildren, Alisha, Garrhett, Jake and Maci Watrous. Hilda also has several nieces, nephews and many close friends. She was very active in St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Madison and enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, gardening, and especially loved being with family. Summer vacations were spent at Cape Cod, where the family would gather for great food, especially lobster, playing games and relaxing on the beach. Her house was the center of holiday celebrations and she enjoyed entertaining. She was always supportive of family; smiling, giving a hug, and offering to help. Friends may visit with her family on Wednesday, April 16th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden followed by her Funeral Service in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place after the service in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
