McLEAN, HUGH, JR. Hugh McLean, Jr., 89, of Hamden passed away peacefully on February 10, 2014 with family by his side. He was born to the late Hugh and Margaret McLean of New Haven. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanne along with his two sons, Hugh Scott McLean (Susan) of PA, and Brian McLean (Judi) of Clinton, CT. He is also survived by his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly Lauren, Sean and Sara, his sisters-in-law Carolyn Coleman and Marie McLean along with many nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his two sisters: Dorothy (Padden), Margaret (Hunter) and brother Robert. A WWII and D-Day Veteran, he proudly served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 in North Africa and in the Allied invasions of Sicily and Normandy. Upon his return to the states, he worked for the New Haven Railroad where he met and married the love of his life. In 1949 he became a Hamden Firefighter serving for 38 years. He received the Alfred Ramelli Award (1973) and the Hamden Civitan Club Fireman of the Year Award (1982). He loved his career with the Hamden Fire Department, which provided many great memories and life long friends. Hugh found great joy and pride in caring for the home he built for his family. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 2224. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Hugh at Hamden Health Care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
