MALONE, JAMES EDWARD Entered into rest, May 6, 2013, James Edward Malone of 80A Clifford Street, Hamden, formerly of Ridge Road. He was the husband of Kathryn Ahearn Malone. He was born in New Haven September 18, 1922, the son of the late James E. Malone, Sr. and Anna McCollom Malone. Ed graduated from Hillhouse High School and Wesleyan University with a Bachelor's Degree. He joined the Marine Corps and served with the 21st Marines of the 3rd Division. He saw action in the battle of Iwo Jima where he was a Mortar Crewman. After the Japanese surrender he was assigned to the 6th Marine Division and sailed to Tsingtoa, China to be part of the Japanese surrender there. Upon his return he met his future wife and was happily married for over 65 years. Ed went on to take over his father's restaurant the Three Steins which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1966. He was a member of The Knights of Saint Patrick and the Elks Club. In his early years he was an avid golfer and swimmer and he loved reading. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Michael T. Malone and his wife Maria of Berlin, Conn., and his grandson, Sean Michael Malone. He was predeceased by a son, Terrance E. Malone. Funeral Services have been entrusted to the Monahan, Cox, Smith & Crimmins Funeral Home, 11 Wooster Place, New Haven. There will be no calling hours, Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Stephen, 400 Ridge Road, Hamden, Monday May 13, 2013 at 10 am. Interment will be privately conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animal Haven, 89 Mill Road, North Haven, Connecticut 06473
