James Mahon Obituary

MAHON, JAMES B., JR. James B. Mahon, Jr., of Wallingford, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Village Green of Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Donna Powers Mahon. Born in New Haven, December 2, 1934, a son of the late James B. Mahon, Sr., and the late Dorothy Hodgins Mahon, he had been a Wallingford resident for 20 years then had lived in Hamden for 15 years before moving back to Wallingford. He was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and Quinnipiac University and had been a Certified Public Accountant and partner with Luppi, Mahon, Simons and Schulz, in North Haven for many years until his retirement 16 years ago. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Second Company Governor's Foot Guard in New Haven. He also was a member of the North Haven Rotary Club and had been a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection. He was a kind, honest, gentle man with a heart of gold. He loved playing his saxophone along with the music of the big bands and jazz. He enjoyed taking walks, spending quality time with his family, and always had a kind word for everyone. He was much loved by everyone he touched. Besides his wife Donna, Mr. Mahon is survived by his daughters, Deborah Mahon of Branford, Karen Anziano and her husband Dan of Wallingford, Michelle Donahue and her husband Troy of Middlefield, and Donna Williams of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Austin Mahon, Rory Maxwell, James Anziano, Stephanie Sargalski and her husband Dan, Christy Williams, and Tyler Cruz; 4 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; his sisters, Jewel McKeon of Florida, Marilyn Cullen and her husband Ray of Wolcott, and Katherine Salvato and her husband Al of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Monday, July 1, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery.
