James Edmond Woods

WOODS, JAMES EDMOND James Edmond Woods, 82, formerly of King Ferry, NY passed peacefully on August 14th, 2013 at the Finger Lakes Center for Living at Auburn Community Hospital. James was born September 21, 1930 in New York City and was the son of James Woods, Sr. and Kathleen Geary Woods. James worked at Lou Hawkin's farm at age 12 where he met his lifelong friend, Henry "Hank" Rebhan. In addition to owning and operating his own dairy, "Forglow Farm" in Guilford, CT, he also worked for the Town of Guilford, was employed by Gene Norton Construction, delivered roses for Pinchbeck's, and served as Captain of the Washington Fire Department; all in Guilford. In 1952 Jim met the love of his life, Barbara Tresselt at Maple Shade Dairy; they married in 1954 and had five beautiful children. In 1972 they moved to King Ferry and purchased the old Heffernan farm on State Route 34B. Jim operated the farm until 1986 while also trucking for Old Colony out of Syracuse. After selling the farm he went to work for Agway as a Dairy Route Supplier until he retired in 1995. During his retirement Jim repaired lawn and garden equipment. He loved trains and his Allis Chalmers tractors and was quite the polka dancer. Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Tresselt Woods and his children Barbara Ann (Sam) Fethers, Lynda Woods, (Don Brown), Deb (Stu) Underwood, Jim (Sally) Woods, and Richard (Lori) Woods. He is also survived by his brothers, Dan of Killingworth, CT, John of Deep River, CT, a sister, Kathy Juliano of CT; sister-in-law, Lila Schneider of Branford, CT; a brother-in-law, Lou (Betty) Tresselt of Madison, CT; several nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Jim was predeceased by his sister Kathleen. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Route 90, King Ferry, NY, Monday, August 19th at 2:00 pm, with burial following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Southern Cayuga Ambulance, P.O. Box 7, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139.
