John Donald Cotrone Obituary
COTRONE, JOHN DONALD (DON) John Donald (Don) Cotrone, age 91 of Hamden, beloved husband of Patricia Perkins Cotrone, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Don was born on October 11, 1921, in New Haven, a son of the late Pasquale and Laura Bellavance Cotrone. Besides his wife Pat, he is survived by their three children, two daughters; Dona Cotrone (Daniel) Sullivan and Deborah Cotrone and a son, Kenneth (Dawn Leopold) Cotrone, all currently residing in Hamden, a grandson, Kevin (Stacey Costanzo) Sullivan, and great granddaughter, Taylor Victoria Sullivan, of Vernon. Don graduated from Hamden High School in 1938 and attended the University of Connecticut. He entered the United States Marine Corps and served in WWII from 1942 - 1946, when he was honorably discharged. After returning from service, he received an Associates of Science degree in Industrial Administration from New Haven College, graduating with honors. In 1952 Don began his long and very successful career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, CT, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He accepted the assignment of Chief of Experimental Construction in Palm Beach Florida from 1961 to 1965, where Pratt and Whitney was building their new Research and Development Center. Upon his return to CT he held the position of Plant Manager of the North Haven Plant until 1982. In 1982 Don was one of United Technologies founding executives of the international aero space consortium, International Aero Engines. He served as Vice President of Manufacturing for the next five years, collaborating with the consortium members in Europe and the Far East to develop one of the most successful commercial jet engines in aviation history. Since 1987 Don enjoyed a long retirement pursuing his passion for books, traveling the East Coast and beyond as a rare book dealer. He traveled the world with his wife and enjoyed many family vacations as well. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Paul F. Cotrone of Wallingford and William Russell Cotrone of Northford. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. Burial will private and at the family's convenience.
