John Kuruc

KURUC, JOHN John Kuruc, 85, of Northford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Marion Gleck Kuruc. John was born in Bronx, New York on October 7, 1928; son of the late Nicholas and Mary Orlovsky Kuruc; served his country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corp during WW II and was recalled to service in 1950 for the Korean War. John was a dedicated union man starting in 1953 in New Yorks Meat Cutters & Butcher Workers Local #400. He also was on the International Staff as an organizer. He was elected to the position of Secretary/Treasurer for Local #371 in Westport, CT and held that position from 1965 until his retirement in 1990. John was a graduate of Harvard Business School 53rd Class of the Trade Union Program and was the recipient of the “Boys Town Labor Man of the Year Award” in 1985. John was also an devoted parishioner of St. Monica Church. Loving father of Carolann (Richard) Slayton, Helene (Pat) Zichichi and Susan (Vincent) Wynne. Devoted grandfather of John Slayton, Christine (Michael) Doheny, Eric & Carrie Slayton, Nicole (Dustin) Flagge, Vincent Zichichi and Joseph (Jessica) Thibault. Devoted great-grandfather of Alexa, Michael, Aidan and Caitlin. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday afternoon at 12:30. Family and friends may call from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Monica's Church at 1:00 pm. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
