Joseph J. Bango

Bango, Joseph J. Joseph J. Bango, 91, of New Haven, passed away June 15, 2013 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was the husband of Emily Cafaro Bango, to whom he was married for 67 years. Joe was born in New Haven, May 3, 1922, son of the late Jules and Alice Conte Bango and graduated from St. Francis School, Hillhouse and the Stone School of Business. During WWII he served in the U.S. Maritime Service and married after the war on Dec. 1, 1945 in Groton, CT. He was VP and Treasurer of the Harris Co. of North Haven, later National Compresseed Gases, for over 40 years, when he became General Manager, until his retirement in 1997. He later served as VP and General Manager of Conn. Analytical Corp. in Bethany until his illness several months ago. His interests included golf, where he was a member of Race Brook Country Club in Woodbridge for many decades and a lifelong interest in jazz music, having played flute, clarinet and tenor saxaphone. Over the past several decades he played jazz music benefits with the Star Dusters. Beside his wife, he is survived by his children, Elisa Franklin and her husband, Richard of Tuscon, AZ and Joseph Bango, Jr., of Cheshire and two beloved grandchildren, Joseph and Arianna. He was predeceased by siblings, Alice Marie DeRosa and Jules Bango. Funeral Thursday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at St. Aedan's Church at 10 o'clock. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M.
