Joyce Barry Obituary

BARRY, Joyce F. Joyce Frances Barry, 75, of West Haven, beloved wife of Robert H. Barry, loving mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend to so many, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Haven, August 6, 1937, the only child of Frank and Nina Emily Shomett Holland. A graduate of Hillhouse High School, Joyce attended Stone Business Academy and Quinnipiac College. She had been employed for over 25 years with the City of West Haven, first as a Welfare Investigator, and then as a clerk with the Assessor's Office. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, fun times at the casino, and rooting for her son's favorite team, the N.Y. Mets. Going out to dinner was another special treat, but above all else, she truly cherished time spent with her beloved family. Besides her husband Robert, Joyce is survived by her children, Carolyn Montz-Bowen, of West Haven, Karen Emily Montz, of Groton, Fred Boyd Montz, of West Haven, and Robert John Barry, his fiance Elaine Wheeler, and her daughter Alina, of Trumbull; two grandsons, Frederick Montz, of East Haven, and Logan Robert Barry of West Haven and Trumbull. She also leaves very dear cousins, "Lucky" Shomett, of West Haven, Susan Marazzi and her husband Ozzi, of West Haven, and their daughters, Jamie and April, and her very dear friend and "sister" for over 30 years, Terri Mclean of West Haven. The funeral will be from Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church, 285 Alden Avenue, New Haven, Monday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Condolences may be expressed online at www.keenanfuneralhome.com.

Your memorial popped up this morning and it was nice to see your face. We miss you and were just talking about you last night. I was even wearing one of your shirts. I feel as if you have popped up to say hi in a way and it lifted my spirits. Hi Joyce! May God comfort your family as I know they still mourn. I pray they can know and be comforted that they will see you again one day.

Dear Joyce, There are no words to express loosing you. I wish I'd have spent more time with you, you are a beautiful person. I want to see you again in Heaven one day. My heart goes out to your family and friends, especially Rob and Robert because I saw what they went through...and they stood so strong even though it was hard. Also to Alina and Logan for being your good buddies and keeping you company many times. God bless them and comfort them. Love always Elaine

You were always so friendly and warm when I had to go to the tax office. You were kind and generous to my son, Marc, and I will never forget that. God rest your genuinely good soul . May God give the people who love you so much the strength to make this journey of grief. Bernadette Cappella
