Lenore Healy Obituary

HEALY, LENORE READ Lenore Read Healy, of Branford, Connecticut, entered into eternal life on April 7, 2014, after a long and happy life, surrounded by her family. She is predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Joseph Patrick Healy. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 8, 1926, Lenore was the daughter of the late Marie Clarissa Rollins and George Edward Read. Lenore grew up in Boston and the Main Line of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Every summer Lenore could be found on the beaches of Manomet, Massachusetts, which became a beloved family spot and tradition. Lenore was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart and Rosemont College. In 1951, Lenore married the love of her life, Joseph Patrick Healy, at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Over the next 50 years they raised seven children and lived in a variety of locales across the United States, finally landing in Branford, Connecticut, where she lived for 49 years. Lenore’s busiest and happiest days were spent in a big brown house on Yowago Avenue. Lenore was a busy mother and volunteer and was active at Saint Therese Church, the Pine Orchard Club, the Pine Orchard Chapel, Yale–New Haven Hospital, and the American Red Cross. Lenore gave her life to her family and was known for her large dinners, her sense of occasion and festivity, her faith, her Boston roots, her fashion flair and blue eyes, and her devotion to her husband, most especially during his years of illness. Lenore is survived by her seven children: Joseph (Caryl), Christopher (Jude), Paul (Kathy), Mark, Mary (Alan), Daniel, and Susan (Tim); and nineteen grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, George and Richard Read. Calling Hours are Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is being celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Therese Church, Branford. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Therese Church, 105 Leetes Island Road, Branford, CT, 06405; or Lenore would appreciate an act of kindness or encouraging word offered to someone in her memory. I am so thrilled and honored to know the Healy Family and especially the legacy of Lenore Healy, a strong and elegant woman who was funny and kind to me always, very encouraging and supporting to Meredith's friends--me in particular--no matter how far flung we were. We lover her and miss her. She will always be for me a great role model in how to live the rest of my life.

Your mom was a beautiful person. God bless Lenore and the entire Healy family.
When I read about her I couldn't help but think of Mary, you are a tribute to your mother.
